Description

Les Cités Obscures, work of the Belgian drawer François Schuiten and the scriptwriter Benoît Peeters, is a cycle of about fifteen fantastic comic strips.
When I composed Les Cités Obscures, I did not follow the story lines of the comic strips but I drew my inspiration from Schuiten’s world in order to tell with the musical language the impressions I got from the series. Some elements are omnipresent through all the books from the series and represent the concrete link between the visual world and the sound world. These elements are, in order of appearance in the piece : architecture, perpectives, optical illusion, apocalyptic pictures, the hero’s quest, symbolism, setting out for an improbable land… . And the whole within a surrealistic approach.
